Omar Jose Alvarado

A 23-year-old man, Omar Jose Alvarado, has been charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter following a fatal crash on November 22, 2024, at 6800 Katy Freeway (West Interstate Highway 10) around 3:05 a.m. Alvarado, who was treated for injuries at a local hospital, was released on December 2 and booked into the Harris County Jail.

The victims, identified as 46-year-old Harris County Precinct 5 Constable Deputy Katherine Hutson and her 8-year-old daughter, Kacey Hutson, were killed when Alvarado’s gray Mazda 3 collided with their white Chevrolet Impala. The deputy, who was working traffic control in the far-right lane of the freeway, had her emergency lights on when the impact occurred, causing her vehicle to burst into flames. Both mother and daughter were pronounced dead at the scene.

A 25-year-old female passenger in Alvarado’s car sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital.

The investigation revealed Alvarado was impaired at the time of the crash. He was questioned at the scene and later charged while awaiting release from the hospital.
