Deputy Wrestles Suspect During Arrest for Attempted Beer Theft and Cocaine Possession
On Monday, February 5, 2024, around 06:30hrs, a Sheriff Deputy stopped at the Stripes Convenience Store at 1250 FM 802, Brownsville, Texas, to refuel his patrol unit.
Upon entering the store, the Deputy noticed the store clerk in a defensive stance with a man in front of him. The clerk reported that the man had attempted to steal beer. The Deputy intervened as the man tried to leave and tried to detain him, but the man resisted, leading to a struggle. Eventually, the Deputy managed to handcuff the man and found three plastic bags containing a substance resembling cocaine during a search. The man was identified as 30-year-old Emilio Chavez Jr.
The Sheriff Deputy arrested Mr. Chavez Jr. and took him to the Carrizales Rucker Detention Center, where he awaits arraignment. Mr. Chavez Jr. faces charges of Resisting Arrest, Search Transportation TPC 38.03, a Class A Misdemeanor, and Possession of Controlled Substance PG 1 HSC 481.115, a State Jail Felony.
