Christmas Night Blaze: Gulfton Area Apartment Fire Leads to Arrest for Arson
On December 25, 2023, at 11:06 p.m., emergency responders rushed to 7245 Hillcroft Ave. 77081, following reports of an apartment fire. Firefighters from multiple stations, including Stations 28, 37, 68, 82, 2, 10, 51, 60, 9, 57, and Rescue 10, swiftly arrived on the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered an apartment ablaze with a report of possible trapped victims. A primary search was conducted, leading to the discovery of a victim inside. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) crews transported the injured civilian, suffering from burns, to the hospital.
Fire crews worked to control the fire and prevent further damage. The estimated property saved amounted to $500,000, while the estimated damage reached $400,000. The efficient response and actions by the firefighters helped mitigate potential losses.
Houston Fire Department (HFD) Arson investigators, in collaboration with the Houston Police Department, probed into the incident to determine its cause and origin. The investigation concluded with the ruling that the fire was incendiary in nature.
As a result, 30-year-old Armando Perez Jr. was arrested and charged with Arson of a habitation, a first-degree felony.
