Brownsville Police Seize Cocaine in Routine Traffic Stop

In a routine traffic stop on November 4, 2023, at approximately 10:22 AM, a Brownsville Police Patrol Officer pulled over a white 2018 Nissan Altima at the 1700 block of Boca Chica Blvd for a traffic violation. The driver, identified as 44-year-old David Benjamin de la Cruz, was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

Upon making contact with De la Cruz, he voluntarily admitted to officers that he was transporting narcotics and gave verbal consent to search his vehicle. Subsequent to the search, officers discovered nine (9) bundles in a bag on the rear floorboard of the vehicle. The bundles contained a white powdery substance that field tested positive for the properties of cocaine. The combined weight of the seized bundles amounted to approximately 9.44 kilograms.

In light of the findings, Brownsville Police Department reached out to Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) for further assistance. HSI Agents have taken over the investigation, accepting federal prosecution in connection to the seized narcotics.
