Birthday Party in Katy Turns Deadly, Three Dead and Multiple Injured in Fatal Shootout

On Sunday, January 21, 2024, at around 3:00 AM, Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Investigators responded to a residence at 4643 Russet Leaf Trace in Katy, following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, deputies from Harris County Sheriff’s Office District 4 found a chaotic scene, with multiple individuals injured.

The incident unfolded after several calls reporting shots fired and multiple injuries. Patrol deputies detained several witnesses and provided assistance to the wounded. Three adult males were transported to different hospitals, while an adult male and female were pronounced dead at the scene. One of the transported male victims succumbed to his injuries shortly after reaching the hospital.

Homicide and Crime Scene investigators took charge of the scene, securing it and initiating interviews with witnesses. Initial findings revealed that a birthday party was underway inside the residence when a confrontation erupted among attendees. The situation escalated, leading to the production of weapons and a shootout involving an unknown number of people. Gunshots were fired both inside and outside the house, extending onto the street.

To piece together the sequence of events, investigators reviewed security camera footage and videos from witnesses’ cell phones. As of now, the identities of all involved individuals remain unclear, and it is uncertain who fired the fatal shots. The investigation is ongoing, and not all next of kin have been notified. Evidence processing is still underway.
