Beaumont Police Arrest Two in $50,000 Fraud Scheme

BEAUMONT, Texas – Two suspects are in custody after Beaumont Police uncovered a large-scale fraud scheme that targeted a local resident.
On Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at approximately 12:41 p.m., detectives investigating a fraud case requested assistance from the department’s Special Assignment Unit (SAU). The victim reported being told he had mistakenly received a $50,000 refund and was pressured to return the money in cash. He had already given the suspects $20,000 and was preparing to hand over an additional $30,000.
SAU and patrol officers conducted surveillance at the victim’s residence in the 3600 block of Brentwood Drive. A suspect vehicle arrived, and the victim confirmed the individuals were there to collect the money. Officers detained the occupants, identified as 33-year-old Jiexi Fan and 39-year-old Zhenxiang Yang.
During the investigation, Fan was found to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine. Both suspects were transported to the Beaumont Police Station, interviewed, and arrested for felony theft. Fan also faces an additional charge of possession of a controlled substance.
They were booked into the Jefferson County Correctional Facility. The investigation was led by the Criminal Investigations Division with support from the Special Assignment Unit and Patrol Officers.
