Austin Man Found Guilty of Sexual Assault

On Friday, October 13, 2023, a Travis County jury found 29-year-old Ruben Alonzo guilty on all five counts of sexual assault after a week-long trial.

Jury selection for Mr. Alonzo’s trial began on Monday, October 9th. Opening statements and witness testimony started the following day on Tuesday, October 10th. After hearing all the evidence presented, the 12-person jury deliberated and returned guilty verdicts on each count of sexual assault on Friday the 13th.

Mr. Alonzo was initially arrested on August 12, 2021 by the Austin Police Department and charged with sexual assault for incidents occurring between June 2019 and July 2019. A Travis County grand jury later indicted Mr. Alonzo on five counts of sexual assault in September 2022.

The guilty verdicts were handed down after an intense week-long trial. Mr. Alonzo now faces up to 20 years in prison on each count. His sentencing is scheduled for November 9th where a judge will determine the length of his prison sentence.
