Arrest Made in Murder of Woman Shot at West Gulf Bank Road Intersection
Charges have been filed against Wydell Dupree Jones, 57, in connection with the fatal shooting of Maria Ramirez, 59, that occurred at 7001 West Gulf Bank Road around 1:40 a.m. on January 20.
Jones is facing charges of murder in the 488th State District Court and possession of a controlled substance in the 174th State District Court.
The incident took place at the intersection of West Gulf Bank Road and North Houston-Rosslyn Road, where Ramirez and a passenger were in her car. A shot, believed to have come from a silver Ford F-150 pickup truck, struck Ramirez, causing her vehicle to roll through the intersection, over a curb, and into a parking lot, ultimately colliding with a dumpster. Ramirez was pronounced deceased when HPD patrol officers and Houston Fire Department paramedics arrived on the scene. The 55-year-old female passenger in Ramirez’s car remained unharmed.
At the time of the incident, there was no known suspect description. However, further investigation led officers from the HPD North Patrol Division Crime Suppression Unit to identify Jones as the suspect. He was apprehended without incident on Tuesday, January 30, and subsequently taken into custody.
Jones has been questioned by detectives and transported to the Harris County Jail.
