Arrest Made in Case of Missing Man Found Fatally Shot: Suspect Caught in Mexico

A suspect wanted and charged in the fatal shooting of a man reported missing on April 4, 2023, has been arrested.

The suspect, 18-year-old Jonathan Hernandez faces capital murder charges in the 248th State District Court for the death of 19-year-old Luis Deleon.

Human remains discovered beneath wood pallets near railroad tracks at 2101 Lee Street by Texas Equusearch on April 20, 2023, were identified as those of Mr. Deleon. The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences confirmed that Deleon had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

An investigation revealed that Deleon was last seen at 4414 Navigation Boulevard and identified Hernandez as a suspect. Authorities determined that Hernandez fatally shot Deleon during a robbery.

Hernandez was formally charged on April 27, 2023.

On February 15, members of the U.S Marshals Office’s Fugitive Task Force, along with Mexican authorities, arrested Hernandez in Mexico. He was extradited back to Texas and booked into the Harris County Jail.
