Fugitive Wanted in Deadly Mardi Gras Mass Shooting Captured in Montgomery County

A fugitive wanted in connection with a mass shooting during a Mardi Gras celebration in Evangeline Parish, Louisiana, has been arrested following a coordinated law enforcement effort.
On March 8, 2025, members of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Conroe Police Department, and the U.S. Marshals in the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders and Fugitive Task Force apprehended 19-year-old Trea’land Ty’rell Castille at an apartment complex in South Montgomery County.
Castille, who had been on the run since the shooting, faces multiple charges, including:
- 2 counts of First-Degree Murder
- 10 counts of Second-Degree Murder
- 5 counts of Aggravated Assault with a Firearm
Authorities allege Castille opened fire during the Mardi Gras event, killing multiple people and injuring several others. Following an extensive manhunt, he was located and taken into custody without further incident. Castille is currently being held at the Montgomery County Jail, awaiting extradition.
Sheriff Doolittle stated, “Criminals who think they can come here to hide or bring violence into our community better think again. This arrest sends a strong and unwavering message—we do not tolerate violent offenders in Montgomery County.”
The investigation remains ongoing.
