Austin Police Seek Person of Interest in Rutland Drive Homicide Investigation

The Austin Police Department’s Homicide Unit is asking for the public’s help in identifying a person of interest related to the ongoing homicide investigation in the 1900 block of Rutland Drive.

The person of interest is described as:

  • Hispanic male
  • Late 20s to early 30s
  • Approximately 240 to 260 lbs.
  • Between 5’8” to 5’10” tall
  • Long, dark hair
  • Mustache and goatee

Original Incident

On Saturday, November 16, 2024, at approximately 4:07 a.m., Austin Police officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 1900 block of Rutland Drive. Upon arrival, officers found a female victim inside an apartment with a gunshot wound. Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services (ATCEMS) attempted life-saving measures but pronounced the victim deceased at 4:37 a.m.

Officers detained a resident of the neighboring apartment, identified as 21-year-old Noah Mata. According to the investigation, Mata allegedly attempted to take a gun from another male in the apartment when the firearm discharged. The bullet fatally struck the female victim in the adjacent apartment.

Mata was arrested and charged with 1st Degree Aggravated Robbery. He remains in custody at Travis County Jail.

The investigation is ongoing.
