Suspect Charged with Capital Murder in Fatal Shooting of 90-Year-Old at Westbrae Parkway
Kyliel Denzel Arceneaux

Kyliel Denzel Arceneaux, 21, has been arrested and charged with capital murder, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and tampering with evidence in the 487th State District Court following the fatal shooting of Nelson Beckett, 90, at 10680 Westbrae Parkway at approximately 12:45 p.m. on Saturday, August 31.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant B. Roberts and Detective J. Wallschlaeger reported that HPD patrol officers responded to a call about an assault in progress with a weapon at an independent living community and discovered Beckett with gunshot wounds in the parking lot. Houston Fire Department paramedics transported Beckett to an area hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Beckett was approached by Arceneaux while at his vehicle. Arceneaux assaulted Beckett, shot him, and stole his belongings. He then used Beckett’s vehicle to flee the scene, striking Beckett in the process. The vehicle was later recovered at an apartment complex in the 12500 block of Dunlap Street.

Further investigation by HPD homicide investigators, the South Gessner Patrol Division’s Crime Suppression Team, the HPD Gang Division, and the Texas Department of Public Safety’s Criminal Intelligence Division led to Arceneaux being identified as the suspect. He was arrested on Tuesday, September 3, and booked into the Harris County Jail.
