Apartment Fire in Central Northwest Houston Claims One Life

On February 24, 2024, at 12:05 a.m., a devastating fire broke out at an apartment complex located at 5353 Deep Forest Dr. in the Central Northwest Area of Houston. The blaze resulted in two civilian injuries, with one individual tragically losing their life despite efforts to save them.

Firefighters swiftly responded to the emergency within five minutes of the alarm. Upon arrival, they encountered flames and smoke billowing from a 2-story apartment building. Forced entry was required, accomplished by cutting through a fence, to access the source of the fire.

One victim was discovered at the scene and transported to the hospital. Despite medical efforts, the individual was pronounced deceased upon arrival. Another injured person was also transported for medical care.

Following the primary search, which thankfully yielded no additional victims, crews focused on ventilating nearby units and securing utilities with the assistance of CenterPoint. The fire was eventually extinguished, and thorough efforts were made to ensure all hotspots were fully out.

The estimated property saved from the blaze amounted to $500,000, while the estimated damage reached $580,000. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by authorities, pending further inquiry by HFD Arson investigators.

A total of 66 personnel, including firefighters from various stations including Stations 4, 13, 30, 2, 5, 31, 38, 62, 67, 77, 66, 50, and 15, responded to the incident.
