Apartment Fire in Golfcrest/Bellfort/Reveille Area, Firefighter Suffers Heat Exhaustion

A fire broke out in an apartment building located at 8500 Broadway St. in the Golfcrest/Bellfort/Reveille Area on February 20, 2024, at 12:53 p.m. The incident resulted in one firefighter being transported to the hospital due to possible heat exhaustion.

Firefighters swiftly responded to the scene within six minutes after receiving the alarm. Upon arrival, smoke was observed billowing from the apartment building, with flames visible inside a second-floor unit. The firefighting teams initiated an aggressive attack and successfully extinguished the fire, which was traced back to the kitchen area.

A primary search of the premises was conducted, ensuring no occupants were trapped inside. Additionally, the apartment was ventilated using fans to clear out the smoke.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire originated from the stove, where the resident had left food cooking unintentionally.

The estimated property saved amounted to $730,000, while the damage caused by the fire was estimated at $35,000.

In response to the emergency, a total of 41 personnel, including crews from Stations 20, 26, 23, 29, 36, 40, 52, 61, and 18, were deployed to manage the situation.

Authorities remind residents to exercise caution when cooking and to never leave cooking unattended to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
