A house fire erupted on February 19, 2024, at 7:04 p.m. in the 3400 block of Redbud St in the Sunnyside area, causing an estimated $100,000 in damage. Fortunately, swift action by the Houston Fire Department (HFD) prevented further devastation, saving approximately $98,500 worth of property.

Firefighters responded promptly, arriving within five minutes of the alarm. They encountered smoke billowing from a second-story window upon arrival. Launching an offensive attack, they swiftly conducted a primary search of the premises. Occupants managed to escape safely thanks to functioning smoke alarms.

The fire, located in a bedroom, was swiftly contained with minimal spread into the attic. HFD Arson investigators later determined the cause to be accidental, citing an unspecified electrical malfunction in a radio.

In the aftermath, one child was evaluated on scene by HFD Emergency Medical Services (EMS). Additionally, CenterPoint was notified, and the American Red Cross was contacted to provide assistance to the affected family.

The incident mobilized 33 personnel from various HFD stations, including crews from Stations 23, 21, 46, 25, 35, 24, and 55. The collaborative effort proved instrumental in swiftly containing the blaze and ensuring the safety of the occupants.
