Two Men Sentenced to Over 20 Years Each for Armed Robbery Spree, Firearm Charges in Houston

Two men have been sentenced to prison for separate but similar crime sprees involving robbery and the brandishing of a firearm, according to an announcement by U.S. Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani.

Angel Servellon, 30, from El Salvador, pleaded guilty on August 10, 2023, while DaVonte Williams, 29, from Houston, entered his plea on August 29, 2023.

U.S. District Judge Alfred Bennett ordered Servellon to serve 24 months for three robberies and an additional 168 months for firearm charges, to be served consecutively. The total term is 233 months, followed by three years of supervised release. In a separate case, U.S. District Judge Gray Miller sentenced Williams to a 151-month imprisonment for two robberies, with an additional 84 months for a firearm charge, totaling 235 months. Williams will also have three years of supervised release.

Servellon’s crime spree included robbing a Village Food Store on Chimney Rock on February 16, 2020, followed by an Exxon gas station on Fondren less than two weeks later, and another Exxon on March 3, 2020. Law enforcement apprehended him after the last incident, finding a firearm matching the one used in the robberies.

Williams began his string of robberies on January 12, 2022, at an Exxon gas station on the Eastex freeway and continued the same night at a CVS on Tidwell. He brandished a firearm during the robberies, and authorities identified him through surveillance footage and his distinct limp.

Both men will be in custody pending transfer to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility.

“Although these men went on different crime sprees, targeting a drug store, convenience store and gas station, wand while both were sentenced by different judges, the result was essentially the same – almost 20 years in prison,” said Hamdani. “As the son of an immigrant who donned a convenience store uniform every night at the conclusion of his morning shift as a taxi driver, I am hopeful that sentences like these will deter future gun toting would-be criminals and keep safe the clerks who work, often by the hour and late into night, serving our communities in stores large and small.”

The investigations were handled by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives – Crime Gun Strike Force and the Houston Police Department.
