Operation Heatwave Nets 97 Arrests, 96 Warrants Cleared in Houston Crime Crackdown

HOUSTON, Texas – Nearly 100 people were arrested during a multi-agency crime reduction operation targeting violent crime, robberies, auto thefts and other offenses in areas of Harris County experiencing higher levels of criminal activity.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said Operation Heatwave resulted in 97 arrests and the clearing of 96 outstanding warrants.

Authorities also recovered more than $150,000 worth of stolen vehicles and over $41,000 in other stolen property.

“We get a lot of arrests and reports in these areas for violent crimes,” HCSO Lt. Dennis Wolfford said. “Our goal is to put resources where they’re needed most and get these offenders off the streets.”

The Sheriff’s Office highlighted several arrests made during the operation.

In one case, deputies tracked down a suspect already known to investigators for auto theft activity in the Austin area. Investigators followed the suspect to Houston, where deputies arrested him during a traffic stop.

Authorities said the suspect also had an active felony theft warrant involving property valued between $30,000 and $150,000.

In another case, deputies located a reported stolen vehicle, but the driver fled when they attempted to make an arrest.

Deputies eventually caught the driver, who now faces felony charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and evading in a motor vehicle.

Another arrest involved a robbery suspect wanted by authorities in several jurisdictions.

According to HCSO, the suspect was wanted in Harris County for aggravated robbery, in League City for felony theft and in Galveston County for felony theft. Investigators also connected the suspect to more than $20,000 in thefts of electronics from Walmart stores.

The Sheriff’s Office did not identify the suspects highlighted in its announcement.

Operation Heatwave involved local, state and federal law enforcement agencies sharing personnel, intelligence and other resources while concentrating enforcement efforts in targeted areas of Harris County.
