Houston Road Rage Shooting Ends in Arrest After Driver’s Vehicle Hit Multiple Times

HOUSTON, Texas – A road rage incident along the Northwest Freeway feeder road ended with one driver firing multiple shots into another vehicle before deputies quickly tracked down and arrested the suspect, according to the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office.

Deputies with Constable Mark Herman’s Office responded on Friday, Aug. 7, to the 27000 block of the Northwest Freeway after receiving reports of an active shooting involving two motorists.

When deputies arrived, they determined the incident began as a confrontation between two drivers traveling on the feeder road.

Vehicle Struck Six Times

Investigators said the dispute escalated into a physical confrontation before one of the drivers allegedly fired a handgun at the other driver’s vehicle.

Authorities said the victim’s vehicle was struck approximately six times.

Despite the gunfire, the driver was not injured.

Suspect Located, Firearms Recovered

Deputies quickly located the suspect vehicle and arrested the driver, identified as 55-year-old Gary Scalarone.

During the investigation, deputies recovered several handguns from Scalarone’s vehicle.

Investigators also conducted a gunshot residue (GSR) test, which returned a positive result, indicating Scalarone had recently discharged a firearm.

Scalarone was booked into the Harris County Jail on a charge of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

His bond was set at $50,000 by the 174th District Court.

“Road rage can turn a simple disagreement on the roadway into a potentially deadly encounter in a matter of seconds,” Constable Mark Herman said. “Fortunately, no one was injured in this incident. Our deputies acted quickly to locate and apprehend the suspect and remove firearms from a dangerous situation.”
