Man Dies After Crashing Vehicle into Cypress Home, Investigators Determine He Was Shot

CYPRESS, Texas. A 22-year-old man died after crashing his vehicle into a home in west Harris County, with investigators later determining he had suffered a gunshot wound, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies with the Harris County Precinct 5 Constable’s Office responded at approximately 1:35 a.m. on Saturday, July 4, to the 19000 block of Mountain Dale Drive after receiving reports of a vehicle that had crashed into a residence.
When deputies arrived, they found 22-year-old Devon Cavazos unconscious inside the vehicle with apparent injuries consistent with a traffic crash.
Emergency medical personnel transported Cavazos to a nearby hospital, where doctors discovered he had also suffered a gunshot wound. He was listed in critical condition.
Detectives with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Unit initially responded to investigate before notifying homicide detectives, who assumed responsibility for the case.
On Sunday, July 5, Cavazos died at the hospital from his injuries.
Homicide detectives said they are actively pursuing credible investigative leads. A motive for the shooting has not been determined.
