Motorcyclist Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash at FM 1960 and Terrace Oaks Drive

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas. A motorcyclist was killed Thursday morning in a multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of FM 1960 Road West and Terrace Oaks Drive, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash occurred at approximately 10:12 a.m. on July 9.

Investigators said Keith Fangmeier was driving a Cadillac Escalade eastbound on FM 1960 and was stopped in the left-turn lane at the intersection. Fangmeier began turning north onto Terrace Oaks Drive while facing a solid green traffic signal, which required him to yield to oncoming traffic.

At the same time, Jackson Montero was riding a Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle westbound in the far-right lane of FM 1960.

According to the preliminary investigation, witness statements and video footage indicate Montero was traveling at a high rate of speed before entering the intersection, where the motorcycle struck the passenger side of the Escalade. The impact threw Montero from the motorcycle.

After the initial collision, investigators said the Escalade continued north and struck a Chevrolet Silverado 2500 pulling a trailer that was stopped at a red light on Terrace Oaks Drive. The pickup was being driven by Christian Almeida, who had front-seat passenger Ondina Isabel Ramos-Lopez. The Escalade then rolled over before coming to rest.

Montero was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash but was pronounced dead at the scene due to his injuries.

Fangmeier was transported to a nearby hospital in stable condition. Investigators said he showed no signs of impairment.

Authorities said both Fangmeier and Almeida cooperated with investigators.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Vehicular Crimes Division is continuing to investigate the crash.
