HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — Two men were arrested after leading deputies on a brief pursuit in a stolen vehicle before attempting to flee on foot, according to the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office.

Deputies with Constable Mark Herman’s Office initiated a traffic stop on a reported stolen vehicle on June 23 in the 9300 block of FM 1960 Road West.

Authorities said the driver refused to stop, leading deputies on a brief vehicle pursuit that ended in the 8500 block of Easton Commons.

After the vehicle stopped, both the driver and passenger ran from the scene on foot.

Deputies established a perimeter and deployed a K-9 unit and the Constable’s Drone Team to search the area. Both suspects were found hiding along nearby fence lines and were taken into custody without further incident.

The suspects were identified as 17-year-old Richard Luera and 17-year-old Omar Cruz.

Luera was charged with Evading Arrest in a Motor Vehicle and Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle. He was booked into the Harris County Jail, and his bond was set at $15,000 by the 482nd District Court.

Cruz was charged with Evading Arrest on Foot. He was booked into the Harris County Jail, where his bond was set at $100 by County Court at Law No. 12.

“Criminals can run, but they cannot hide,” Constable Mark Herman said in a statement. “Our deputies will use every available resource, including our K-9 Unit, Drone Team, and specialized personnel, to locate and apprehend those who attempt to evade law enforcement. If you choose to flee, you will be caught and held accountable.”
