Katy Man Arrested for Intoxication Manslaughter After Fatal Fort Bend County Crash

FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas — A 20-year-old man has been arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter following a fatal two-vehicle crash in Katy early Tuesday morning, according to the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office.
Dejon Fortune, 20, was booked into the Fort Bend County Jail on one count of Felony Intoxication Manslaughter. His bond is pending magistrate review.
Deputies responded at approximately 2:20 a.m. on June 23 to the 24300 block of Westheimer Parkway after receiving reports of a major crash in the westbound lanes.
According to preliminary findings, Fortune was driving a white BMW when it collided with a black Cadillac operated by 53-year-old Sung Bae.
Emergency responders arrived and pronounced Bae dead at the scene.
Investigators have not released additional details regarding the circumstances leading up to the collision, but authorities said the investigation resulted in the arrest of Fortune on the intoxication manslaughter charge.
Fort Bend County Sheriff Eric Fagan expressed condolences to the victim’s family while emphasizing the dangers of impaired driving.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of Mr. Bae as they navigate this heartbreaking loss,” Fagan said. “Impaired driving continues to claim innocent lives in our community. We urge everyone to make responsible choices and never get behind the wheel while under the influence.”
The crash remains under active investigation, and additional information is expected to be released as it becomes available.
