Midland Man Dies Weeks After Vehicle Went Airborne in Crash Near I-20

MIDLAND, Texas — A Midland man has died from injuries sustained in a violent crash earlier this month in Midland, according to the Midland Police Department.
Police said officers responded around 11:40 p.m. on May 2, 2026, to the area of Cotton Flat Road and the Interstate 20 south service road following reports of a crash involving life-threatening injuries.
Investigators said a 2025 Nissan Versa was traveling eastbound in the 2300 block of Sunglo, also known as West County Road 110, when the driver ran a stop sign at the I-20 south service road.
According to police, the vehicle mounted a concrete curb and went airborne over a retention pond, causing catastrophic damage to the car and seriously injuring both occupants.
Authorities identified one of the passengers as 32-year-old Chandler Trost, who was transported to Midland Memorial Hospital following the crash.
Police said Trost died Sunday, May 17, from injuries suffered in the collision.
Investigators reported that speed and alcohol are believed to have been contributing factors in the crash.
The investigation remains ongoing.
