Houston Police Seek Person of Interest in April 4th Deadly Gulf Freeway Shooting

HOUSTON — Police are asking for the public’s help locating a person of interest in connection with a fatal shooting that left one man dead and another injured last month, according to the Houston Police Department.

Investigators identified 21-year-old Rudy Gomez Jr. as a person of interest in the case. Authorities emphasized that Gomez has not been charged at this time.

The shooting occurred around 5 a.m. on April 4 at a business located in the 12330 block of the Gulf Freeway (South Interstate Highway 45).

Officers responding to the scene found a man unresponsive in the parking lot and another man inside the business suffering from a gunshot wound. Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced the man in the parking lot, identified as 33-year-old Miguel Angel Padila, dead at the scene. The second victim was transported to a hospital and is expected to survive.

Detectives with the HPD Homicide Division later released surveillance video of six individuals believed to have information about the incident. Further investigation led to Gomez being named as a person of interest.
