HOUSTON — A suspect has been arrested following a months-long investigation into a double homicide that left a man and woman dead in southeast Houston, according to the Houston Police Department.

Khiyea Kawaun Sanders, 31, has been charged with tampering with physical evidence in the 185th Criminal District Court.

The case stems from Feb. 28, when officers responded to a call in the 9100 block of Radio Road. Upon arrival, they found two victims suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced both victims dead at the scene.

Authorities identified the victims as 24-year-old Darrell Hall and 27-year-old India Thomas. Investigators said Hall was found in the roadway, while Thomas was located in a nearby ditch.

Police said Thomas was from Maryland and had traveled to Texas to celebrate her 27th birthday before planning to continue on to Miami. She was a mother of two. Hall was identified as her boyfriend.

Investigators later identified Sanders as a suspect in the case. On May 5, members of the HPD Southeast Patrol Division’s Crime Suppression Team took him into custody.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
