Two Houston Men Arrested After Attempted Construction Site Theft in Mont Belvieu

MONT BELVIEU, Texas — Two men were arrested early Friday after an alert citizen reported suspicious activity at a commercial construction site, leading to the recovery of stolen equipment and a trailer.
According to the Mont Belvieu Police Department, officers responded around 12:43 a.m. April 24, 2026, to the 9200 block of Edgewood after a report of suspicious activity at a large construction site.
Officers began searching for a U-Haul truck seen leaving the area pulling a flatbed trailer. A deputy with the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office assisted and located the vehicle, which was stopped at Eagle Drive and Lakes of Champions Boulevard.
Investigators determined the flatbed trailer had been stolen from the job site, along with a large piece of construction equipment found inside the U-Haul truck.
Further investigation at the site revealed additional equipment had been damaged in what appeared to be attempts to steal it, officials said.
Authorities identified the suspects as 26-year-old Fernando Ibarra and 28-year-old Alejandro Escuadra, both of Houston.
Both men were arrested and charged with felony theft, possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana.
Officials credited the reporting citizen and coordination between law enforcement agencies for preventing further losses.
