SPRING, Texas — A caretaker was arrested after deputies responding to a welfare check found a special needs adult unsupervised and discovered the caretaker was more than an hour away, according to Harris County Constable Mark Herman’s Office.

Deputies responded April 18, 2026, to the 2500 block of Spring Cypress Road after a female reportedly wandered into a neighboring apartment looking for her legal caretaker.

Authorities said deputies located the woman and safely returned her to her residence.

During the investigation, deputies determined the woman had multiple special needs diagnoses and required continuous supervision and timely medication because of ongoing medical concerns.

Deputies said they were unable to locate the caretaker at the residence and later learned the caretaker, identified as 26-year-old Margarete Nicole Scott, was more than an hour away at the time.

Authorities remained at the residence for several hours until Scott returned.

According to investigators, Scott admitted she was responsible for providing care and administering medication at specific times and acknowledged the individual should not have been left alone.

Scott was taken into custody and booked into the Harris County Jail.

Her bond was set at $15,000 out of the 262nd District Court.

Authorities said the woman was released to family members who could provide proper care.

The investigation remains ongoing.
