Fugitive Arrested After Motorcycle Chase Ends at Bush Intercontinental Airport

HOUSTON — A wanted fugitive was taken into custody after leading deputies on a high-speed motorcycle pursuit that ended at George Bush Intercontinental Airport, authorities said.
The incident occurred April 8, 2026, when deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office East Patrol Command Crime Reduction Unit were conducting a fugitive investigation near FM 1485 and FM 2090. During the operation, deputies observed the suspect, identified as 46-year-old Michael Vandeberghe, leaving the area on a black Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
When deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop, Vandeberghe fled, leading officers on a pursuit that continued into Houston. Authorities said the chase ended when Vandeberghe crashed into the exterior of the international terminal at Bush Intercontinental Airport.
Officials said the crash occurred at a relatively low speed, causing limited damage to an exterior air conditioning unit. Vandeberghe was taken into custody at the scene without further incident.
He was transported to the Montgomery County Jail and charged with evading arrest or detention in a motor vehicle and possession of a controlled substance. Authorities said he was also processed on two active felony warrants, including theft out of Montgomery County and child neglect out of Polk County.
Officials said Vandeberghe remains in custody.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office credited the Houston Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety for assisting during the pursuit and arrest.
