ROSENBERG, Texas — A Rosenberg man is facing multiple charges after allegedly stealing a vehicle, leading officers on a pursuit that ended in Wharton County.

Police responded Friday, April 3, to a disturbance at an apartment in the 800 block of Blume Road. The victim told dispatch that Dakota Welch, 25, had pushed her, was acting erratically, and may have been intoxicated before taking her vehicle.

While officers were en route, Welch reportedly called dispatch and said, “Tell them to come get me.”

Officers later located Welch driving the vehicle in the 700 block of Klauke Road and attempted a traffic stop, but he fled, initiating a pursuit that continued from Rosenberg into Wharton.

During the chase, Texas Department of Public Safety deployed spike strips, disabling the vehicle. Authorities said Welch continued southbound on U.S. 59 before exiting at 961, where he lost control in a grassy area.

Welch then attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended by K9 Officer Bink after a brief pursuit. He was taken into custody without further incident.

Welch was booked into the Fort Bend County Jail on multiple charges, including evading arrest with a vehicle, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, evading arrest on foot, and driving while intoxicated. His total bond exceeds $58,000.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may be filed.

Rosenberg Police credited the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Wharton County Sheriff’s Office, and the Wharton Police Department for assisting in the arrest.
