Suspect Arrested After Multi-County Chase on I-10 West of Fort Stockton

Pecos County, TX — A man was arrested Wednesday afternoon after leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase across multiple West Texas counties.
According to the Pecos County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 1:30 p.m. on March 4, 2026, to conduct a welfare check near the 233-mile marker on Interstate 10, west of Fort Stockton.
Deputies located the driver, identified as 34-year-old Eduardo Ortero-Olguin of Mexico, driving an older model Chevrolet Impala.
Authorities said Ortero-Olguin fled at a high rate of speed when deputies attempted to make contact, initiating a pursuit that continued into Jeff Davis County.
The chase ended when Texas Department of Public Safety troopers deployed spike strips, causing the vehicle’s tires to deflate. Investigators said the suspect then lost control of the vehicle.
After a brief struggle, Ortero-Olguin was taken into custody.
He was transported to Reeves County Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the incident. After receiving medical care, he was released and booked into the Pecos County Jail.
Ortero-Olguin is facing charges of two counts of Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer and Evading Arrest with a Vehicle.
Authorities also placed an immigration detainer on Ortero-Olguin due to his status in the United States.
Pecos County Sheriff Perkins thanked several agencies that assisted with the incident, including the Reeves County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Department of Public Safety, Jeff Davis County Sheriff’s Office, Culberson County Sheriff’s Office, Hudspeth County Sheriff’s Office, and Reeves County EMS.
