Two Suspects Identified in La Marque Vehicle Burglary Spree, Stolen Firearm Recovered

LA MARQUE, Texas – A La Marque Police Department detective assigned to the Gulf Coast Auto Crimes Task Force has identified two suspects in connection with multiple motor vehicle burglaries that occurred over a two-day period.
During the investigation, detectives learned that 20-year-old Aumani Smith had been arrested by the Texas City Police Department and was found in possession of a handgun stolen out of La Marque.
Smith was subsequently charged by the La Marque Police Department with Theft of a Firearm and Burglary of a Vehicle.
Detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigations Division later executed a search warrant at a residence in the 600 block of Laurel, where additional stolen property was recovered.
Further investigation led Detective Skaggs to identify a second suspect, 17-year-old Malik Johnson. Warrants were filed charging Johnson with Criminal Mischief between $2,500 and $30,000, Theft of Property between $750 and $2,500, and two counts of Burglary of a Vehicle.
As the investigation continued, additional charges were filed against Smith, including Criminal Mischief between $2,500 and $30,000, Theft of Property between $750 and $2,500, and another count of Burglary of a Vehicle.
The La Marque Police Department says the case reflects its ongoing efforts to aggressively investigate property crimes and hold offenders accountable.
