Wrong-Way Crash on I-10 Kills El Paso Man; Woman Charged with Intoxication Manslaughter

EL PASO, TX — A 25-year-old woman has been arrested after investigators say she drove the wrong way on Interstate 10 and caused a head-on collision that left another driver dead late Tuesday night.
At 10:39 p.m. on February 3, 2026, the El Paso Police Department’s Special Traffic Investigations Unit responded to a two-vehicle crash on I-10 West near mile marker 11 in the Mesa area.
Preliminary findings indicate that Britney Torres was traveling the wrong way on I-10 West in a 2017 Ford Mustang when she struck a 2009 Honda Civic head-on. The Civic was driven by 25-year-old Jesus Chico Jr., who was traveling westbound at the time of the crash.
Torres was transported to a hospital with minor injuries. Chico succumbed to the injuries he sustained in the collision.
The department’s DWI Task Force assisted in the investigation. Following the investigation, Torres was arrested and charged with Intoxication Manslaughter. She was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility. Judge R. Nunez set her bond at $150,000.
Police said this marks the fifth traffic fatality in El Paso this year, the same number recorded at this time in 2025.
