Two Teens Charged With November Murder After El Paso Shooting Victim Dies Weeks Later

EL PASO, Texas – Two 17-year-old suspects have been arrested and charged with murder following a shooting last fall that later proved fatal, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to reports of shots fired in the 14100 block of Fortuna at approximately 2:49 a.m. on November 14, 2025. At the scene, deputies found 39-year-old Jose Sanchez Garcia suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment as the Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation.

On December 16, 2025, authorities confirmed that Sanchez Garcia died from complications related to the gunshot wound.

Following an extensive investigation by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit, working in coordination with the Texas Rangers, investigators identified two juvenile suspects. Giovanni Alberto Gutierrez, 17, and Gael Adrian Rodriguez, 17, were taken into custody and charged with murder. Both are being held without bond.

Sheriff Oscar Ugarte credited the collaborative efforts of investigators for advancing the case and bringing charges. The investigation remains ongoing.
