Man Killed in Dog Attack on Mason Creek Hike and Bike Trail in Katy

KATY, TX – A 62-year-old man was killed Saturday morning after being attacked by multiple dogs while using the Mason Creek Hike and Bike Trail in Katy, according to Harris County Constable Terry Allbritton’s Office.

Precinct 5 deputies responded to the 2500 block of Porter Road around 9 a.m. after a witness called 911 reporting three aggressive dogs attacking another person on the trail. Deputies arrived within minutes and found the victim deceased at the scene.

Authorities launched an extensive search for the dogs following the attack. After approximately four hours, all three dogs were located and captured. The final dog was found hiding inside a drainage pipe and was tranquilized and safely removed with assistance from Precinct 5’s Strategic Response Unit and Harris County Animal Control. All three dogs are now in the custody of Animal Control.

Officials asked the community to keep the victim’s family and loved ones in their thoughts as the investigation continues.

In light of the incident, Precinct 5 shared safety guidance for anyone who may encounter an aggressive dog. Deputies advise people to stop running to avoid triggering a chase, remain calm and stand tall, avoid direct eye contact, and use a firm voice to command the dog to stay back. They also recommend placing an object between yourself and the animal, backing away slowly without turning your back, protecting your face and neck if attacked, and reporting aggressive dogs to authorities. Anyone bitten should seek medical care immediately.

The investigation into the attack remains ongoing.
