Texas City Man Gets 50 Years for Gruesome Machete Murder of Mother
Jonathan Armand Taylor

Jonathan Armand Taylor pleaded guilty on Wednesday afternoon to the murder of his mother in Texas City and was sentenced to 50 years in prison.

The case unfolded in the late hours of October 9, 2024, when Texas City police officers were called to a Wendy’s restaurant on Palmer Highway. There, they encountered Jonathan Taylor, who was covered in blood and asked employees to contact law enforcement. Taylor informed officers that he had killed his mother and provided her address. He also had visible self-inflicted bloody wounds on both arms and was subsequently transported to a hospital for treatment.

Simultaneously, officers responded to the family residence on Tarpey Avenue. Upon entering the home, they discovered a gruesome scene with a severely injured woman, Regina McIntyre, Taylor’s mother, lying on the floor next to a machete. McIntyre was airlifted to UTMB but succumbed to her extensive injuries.

The machete found at the scene was later confirmed as the murder weapon. Forensic analysis of blood recovered from Taylor’s clothing and body matched his mother’s DNA.

Following a comprehensive investigation, Texas City police arrested Taylor for murder. In a voluntary interview with Det. Larry Williamson, Taylor confessed to using a machete to kill his mother. An autopsy performed by Medical Examiner Dr. Monica Patel revealed at least twenty-five lacerations caused by the machete.

Taylor faced a potential sentence of 5 years to life in prison. However, in a plea bargain with Chief Assistant District Attorney Casey Kirst, Taylor entered a guilty plea and received a 50-year prison sentence. Surviving family members reportedly approved of the plea agreement and were present for the court proceedings.

The Galveston County Criminal District Attorney commended the Texas City Police Department for their diligent work in investigating this tragic case. The plea and sentencing took place in the 122nd Judicial District Court, with the Honorable Jeth Jones presiding.
