3-Alarm Warehouse Fire Causes Million in Damage in Houston; Firefighter Injured

A large 1-story warehouse at 2519 McAllister Rd. 77092 sustained an estimated $3 million in damage in a 3-alarm fire that broke out on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at 7:56 a.m. One firefighter was transported to the hospital in stable condition due to heat and carbon monoxide exposure.

Houston Fire Department (HFD) crews arrived at the scene to find heavy smoke and fire emanating from the warehouse. They initiated a defensive attack and escalated the response to a second alarm. All employees and occupants had safely evacuated and were accounted for.

Firefighters used rescue crews to open doors and siding to gain access to the core of the fire. A nearby structure was checked for fire extension, but none was found. The Houston Health Department and HFD Hazardous Material Teams monitored air and water quality in the vicinity and nearby neighborhoods, reporting no toxic results or concerns.

Firefighting efforts were hampered by at least two non-functioning hydrants in the area, leading to the fire being upgraded to a third alarm. A drone was deployed to assess the scene, revealing severely sagging roof sections and inward-slanting exterior walls.

Crews rotated through rehabilitation while working to control the fire from the exterior, remaining on scene until approximately 2 p.m. to ensure all smoldering hot spots were fully extinguished. HFD Arson investigators have been requested to determine the fire’s cause and origin.

A total of 130 personnel responded to the 3-alarm fire, including crews from numerous fire stations and specialized units. Houston Mayor John Whitmire and Fire Chief Thomas Muñoz also responded to the scene to support and thank the firefighters for their efforts. The amount of property saved was not immediately available.   Sources and related content
