2-Year-Old Killed in South Austin Crash, Driver Charged With Intoxication Manslaughter

AUSTIN, Texas — A 2-year-old girl was killed and another person seriously injured in a crash Sunday night in South Austin, according to the Austin Police Department.
Officers responded around 9:54 p.m. May 3 to a collision involving a pickup truck and an SUV in the 2700 block of South Lamar Boulevard.
Police said two passengers in the SUV were transported to a hospital with serious injuries. One of them, identified as Abbi Sofia Romero-Aular, 2, later died.
Other individuals involved in the crash sustained minor injuries.
Authorities identified the pickup driver as 30-year-old Keegan Shirley, who was arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle and intoxication assault causing serious bodily injury.
Investigators said the crash marks Austin’s 28th fatal crash of 2026, resulting in 28 deaths. At the same point last year, the city had recorded 27 fatal crashes with 31 deaths.
The investigation remains ongoing, and officials noted that details could change as more information becomes available.
