18-Year-Old Charged After Shooting Incident in Odessa

On Tuesday, April 2nd, 2024, around 2:45 pm, the Odessa Police Department (OPD) responded to reports of gunfire in the vicinity of 5th Street and W. County Road. Upon investigation, it was found that an individual in a black Ford F-250 had discharged a firearm towards another vehicle and discarded the weapon from the window before leaving the scene. Subsequently, officers discovered an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle in the roadway and later recovered several shell casings in the Floyd Gwin parking lot.

Following an investigation, the suspect responsible for the shooting was identified as 18-year-old Ricardo Garcia. Garcia has been charged with Deadly Conduct (a Felony 3 offense), Possession of a Prohibited Weapon (a Felony 3 offense), and Discharge of a Firearm in Certain Municipalities (a Misdemeanor A offense). He was located and taken into custody by law enforcement officers and subsequently transported to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center.
