Woman Ejected and Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash on North Loop in El Paso
On December 5, 2024, at approximately 10:01 p.m., El Paso Police responded to a two-vehicle crash in the 5300 block of North Loop. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 64-year-old woman who had been ejected from her vehicle during the collision. The Special Traffic Investigations unit was called in to assist with the investigation.
According to the preliminary investigation, the woman was traveling east on North Loop just after Hawkins when she attempted to make a U-turn to head west. At the same time, a 2006 Chevy Traverse was speeding westbound on North Loop. The SUV struck the woman’s Toyota Corolla, causing her to be ejected from the vehicle.
The driver of the Chevy Traverse continued westbound on North Loop, but the vehicle became disabled just past the Hawkins intersection. The driver then fled the scene on foot. The woman was transported to a local hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
Investigators believe speed on the part of the SUV and the failure to yield to traffic by the Corolla may have contributed to the crash. This marks the 64th traffic fatality in El Paso for 2024, compared to 75 at this time last year.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about the crash to contact the El Paso Police at (915) 832-4400 or Crime Stoppers of El Paso at (915) 566-TIPS (8477). The investigation is ongoing.
