Woman Arrested in Shooting of 21-year-old Man in Greater Fifth Ward

A suspect has been arrested in connection with a shooting that occurred at 2205 Russell Street around 11:25 a.m. on Monday, September 2. The suspect, Brandy Pointer, 42, has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 486th State District Court. Pointer’s booking photo is attached.

The victim, a 21-year-old male, was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

According to HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Detective D. Spears, HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting call at the address and discovered the victim with a single gunshot wound. Paramedics took him to the hospital for treatment.

Investigators found Pointer near the scene based on evidence and witness statements. She is accused of producing a firearm and shooting the victim. After consultation with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, Pointer was formally charged.
