Two Men Charged With Capital Murder in Independence Heights Shooting

HOUSTON, Texas – Two men have been charged with capital murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a 23-year-old man in Houston’s Independence Heights area, according to the Houston Police Department.
Officers responded at approximately 9:05 p.m. to reports of a shooting in the 7400 block of North Main Street, where they found an unresponsive man suffering from a gunshot wound. Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced the victim, later identified as Nicholas Hood, deceased at the scene.
Houston Police Department Homicide Division Sergeant K. Persad and Detectives L. Yasin, M. Cater, and K. Hale led the investigation, which identified Troy Giggins, 48, and Clarence Jackson, 49, as suspects in the killing.
Authorities said both men were already being held in the Harris County Jail on unrelated charges when they were formally charged with capital murder in the 183rd Criminal District Court for their alleged roles in Hood’s death.
The investigation remains ongoing.
