Two Corpus Christi Officers Shot During Homicide Suspect Arrest, One Critical

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Two Corpus Christi police officers were shot and a third injured Friday afternoon during a confrontation with a homicide suspect, authorities said, following an earlier fatal shooting elsewhere in the city.
According to the Corpus Christi Police Department, officers were dispatched at 2:47 p.m. Jan. 23 to the 4900 block of Ayers Street in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found a male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported by the Corpus Christi Fire Department to a local hospital, where he later died.
At approximately 3:33 p.m., officers located the suspected vehicle connected to the homicide in the 3100 block of Agnes Street. As officers attempted to detain the suspect, police said the suspect produced a firearm and began shooting. Officers returned fire, striking the suspect multiple times.
Two officers were shot during the exchange and transported to a local hospital. Police said one officer remains in critical condition, while the second officer is in stable condition. A third officer sustained injuries from shrapnel and was treated by medics at the scene.
The suspect, identified as a 38-year-old male, was also transported to a local hospital. Police said he is in stable condition and remains in custody.
In accordance with department policy, the officers involved in the shooting have been placed on paid administrative leave.
