Two Arrested After Police Pursuit Through League City Following Interstate Traffic Stop

LEAGUE CITY, Texas — Two people were arrested Thursday morning after leading police on a vehicle pursuit that began with a traffic stop on Interstate 45 and ended in a League City neighborhood.

According to the League City Police Department, the incident began at approximately 9:05 a.m. on June 25 when Traffic Division Officer Paige observed a white Hyundai Tucson speeding in the 2400 block of the northbound Interstate 45 main lanes.

The officer initiated a traffic stop, and the vehicle pulled onto the shoulder near the 700 block of South Interstate 45. As the officer approached, the driver suddenly accelerated away, prompting a pursuit.

Police said the pursuit continued northbound on Interstate 45 before the driver exited at El Dorado Boulevard, made a U-turn, and traveled southbound on the interstate. The vehicle later exited at FM 518 and entered League City, where it came to a stop near the intersection of Landing Boulevard and Merrimac Drive in the Landing subdivision at approximately 9:13 a.m.

The driver, identified as 24-year-old Keshawn Gaines of Texas City, fled on foot after stopping the vehicle, jumping several fences as he attempted to escape through the neighborhood.

The passenger, identified as 25-year-old Mykenzie Streadwick of League City, remained with the vehicle and was taken into custody without incident.

Officers located Gaines in the backyard of a nearby residence at approximately 9:16 a.m. He was taken into custody without further incident.

Gaines was booked into the League City Jail and charged with Evading Arrest or Detention with a Vehicle, Tampering with Physical Evidence, and Evading Arrest or Detention on Foot. His total bond was set at $152,500.

Streadwick was charged with Tampering with Physical Evidence and booked into the League City Jail. Her bond was set at $25,000.

The League City Police Department thanked the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office, the Galveston County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the Harris County Precinct 8 Constable’s Office, and the Houston Police Department for assisting with the pursuit and arrests.
