Triple Shooting at Beaumont Trail Ride Leaves One Dead, Two Injured

In the late hours of Saturday, December 30, 2023, at 11:33 pm, Beaumont Police responded to a distress call in the 6500 block of Bigner Street, where two victims had been shot near the West Beulah Baptist Church.

The incident unfolded during a “trail ride” event, with approximately 1,000 patrons in attendance, creating a challenging situation for responding officers. Navigating through the crowd proved difficult for Beaumont EMS and Patrol Units, prompting officers to approach the scene on foot.

Officers had to physically carry the gunshot victims out of the crowd, as the sheer volume of people hindered vehicular access. One victim was transported to an awaiting Beaumont EMS unit, while another was taken to a local hospital by BPD Patrol. A third victim arrived at a local hospital via private auto.

One of the victims was pronounced dead, another was in critical condition, and the third sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The gravity of the situation prompted Beaumont Police to request a multiagency response from local law enforcement to aid in clearing and securing the crime scene.

Throughout the night, officers received multiple calls for service related to the “trail ride.” However, detectives have encountered a lack of cooperation from witnesses at the scene. Authorities urge anyone with information about the triple shooting to contact Beaumont Police at 409-832-1234. Alternatively, tips can be submitted anonymously to Southeast Texas Crime Stoppers at 409-833-TIPS(8477) or by downloading the P3 Tips App on a smartphone. Informants may be eligible for a cash reward.

UPDATE

The deceased victim has been identified as 25-year-old Rodtravian Perry of Houston.

During the initial response to the scene of the shooting, BPD Patrol Officers located 26 year old Tom Simpson, who had an AR pistol in his waistband. He was placed under arrest for Unlawfully Carrying a Weapon. This incident is believed to be separate from the triple shooting at this time.
