Traffic Stop on Gulf Freeway Leads to Drug Arrest, Suspect Found Using False Identity

HOUSTON, TX – A routine traffic stop in southeast Houston led to the arrest of a man accused of possessing multiple types of illegal narcotics and providing false information to law enforcement.
On February 12, 2026, at approximately 8:13 p.m., K9 Deputy K. Peters conducted a traffic stop in the 11500 block of the Gulf Freeway on a black Lincoln for a traffic violation. The driver initially identified himself as 41-year-old Ricardo Munoz.
During the stop, K9 Duke was deployed and positively alerted to the presence of narcotics inside the vehicle. A probable-cause search was conducted, and deputies recovered:
- 22 grams of crack cocaine
- 16.1 grams of Xanax (Alprazolam)
- 7.0 grams of pressed fentanyl pills
- 16.6 grams of Adderall (Amphetamine)
The Harris County District Attorney’s Office accepted charges of Possession with Intent to Manufacture/Deliver a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 and Possession with Intent to Manufacture/Deliver a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 2.
The suspect was taken into custody and transported to the Harris County Joint Processing Center. During booking, authorities determined the man had provided false identifying information. He was positively identified through fingerprints and a Texas driver’s license as 40-year-old Rocky Ray Munoz.
Investigators also discovered Munoz had an active warrant through the Harris County Sheriff’s Office for Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1. The warrant was confirmed, and he was booked without incident.
Munoz’s bonds were set at a total of $100,000 for two of the cases. Bond has not yet been set in the third case.
