Traffic Stop Leads to Drug and Weapon Charges for Two Individuals in Harris County

In a routine traffic stop on Monday, December 4, 2023, at around 3:22 PM, Precinct 8 Deputy A. Peters, from Constable Phil Sandlin’s Office, pulled over a vehicle with expired registration in the 9300 block of the Gulf Freeway. During the encounter, Deputy Peters detected the odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle.

The driver, identified as 20-year-old Nasja Raheem Douglas, and the passenger, 26-year-old Antione Leedell Thomas, were subsequently identified. Deputy Peters conducted a probable cause-based search of the vehicle, leading to the discovery of two handguns, 5.3 grams of methamphetamine, and 3.9 grams of crack cocaine. Further investigation revealed that one of the handguns had been reported stolen through the New Orleans Police Department.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was contacted and decided to pursue charges. Douglas faced charges of Unlawful Carry of a Weapon and two felony charges for Possession of a Controlled Substance. His bonds were set at a total of $12,600. Additionally, a check on Thomas’s information uncovered an open warrant for Indecent Exposure through the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

Both Douglas and Thomas were transported to the Harris County Joint Processing Center to await further legal proceedings.
