Three Suspects Arrested After Burglary at Academy Sports in Port Arthur

On Sunday morning, March 9th, at approximately 1:30 a.m., the Port Arthur Police Department (PAPD) received an alarm notification from Academy Sports and Outdoors at 8453 Memorial Blvd.
Responding officers arrived to find the store’s front glass doors shattered, indicating a forced entry. Store personnel provided access to the alarm system cameras, confirming three suspects inside. When officers arrived, the suspects attempted to hide within the building.
PAPD SWAT, along with K9 units from PAPD and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO), responded to the scene. Hostage Negotiators (HNT) and the Special Response Team (SRT) were also deployed. Officers secured the perimeter while the PAPD SWAT Team entered the store and arrested all three suspects without injury.
The suspects, identified as two juveniles and one adult male, were charged with Burglary of a Building and Felony Criminal Mischief. The adult was booked into the Jefferson County Jail, while the juveniles were taken to a juvenile detention facility.
The investigation remains ongoing.
