Three-Alarm Fire Engulfs Houston Drywall Storage Facility; Firefighter Injured

The Houston Fire Department (HFD) responded to a significant fire at a facility believed to be a drywall storage warehouse this morning. The initial call came in at 8:56 a.m., with Engine 38 arriving on scene at 9:01 a.m. to find heavy smoke and intense fire conditions.
Firefighters immediately adopted a defensive strategy and requested a second alarm. The situation escalated, and the incident was subsequently upgraded to a three-alarm (3-11) fire, bringing over 100 HFD personnel to the scene. Crews faced additional challenges due to at least two non-operational fire hydrants in the vicinity.
The Houston Health Department and HFD Hazmat teams are actively monitoring the air quality in the area surrounding the fire. Preliminary assessments have not indicated any immediate air quality concerns.
One firefighter was transported to a local hospital in stable condition for treatment of heat and potential carbon monoxide exposure.
Houston Mayor John Whitmire and Fire Chief Thomas Muñoz were present at the scene to offer support and express their gratitude to the firefighters for their dedicated efforts.
The cause of the extensive fire is currently under investigation by HFD Arson investigators. The department has stated that further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
