Texas DPS Trooper Dies After Being Struck by Vehicle in Ector County
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is mourning the loss of Highway Patrol Trooper Kevin Alexis Ramirez Vasquez, 25, who passed away on September 28, 2024, after being struck by a vehicle while investigating a traffic crash in Ector County. The incident occurred along SH 302 around 9 a.m. on Tuesday, September 17.
Trooper Ramirez Vasquez was initially transported to Medical Center Hospital in Odessa and later airlifted to a Lubbock-area hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. DPS Director Steven McCraw stated, “Texas Highway Patrol Trooper Kevin Alexis Ramirez Vasquez served this state honorably to his very last breath… His commitment to keeping the roads safe, protecting the people of Texas, and the sacrifice he made will never be forgotten.”
Trooper Ramirez Vasquez began his DPS career in 2023 and was stationed in Odessa. He was a United States Army veteran and was actively serving in the National Guard at the time of his death. He is the 241st DPS officer to die in the line of duty since 1823.
He is survived by his parents and three siblings. Funeral arrangements will be announced soon.
