Texas DPS Seizes 12 Pounds of Suspected Fentanyl in Wheeler County Traffic Stop
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) seized over 12 pounds of suspected fentanyl on Thursday following a traffic stop in Wheeler County. A DPS Trooper halted a 2014 Chevrolet Impala traveling east on I-40 near Shamrock for a traffic violation around 8:14 a.m. During the stop, the Trooper uncovered multiple bundles of fentanyl concealed in plastic wrap within the vehicle’s rear quarter panels.
Assisting in the investigation were DPS Criminal Investigation Division (CID) Special Agents and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Special Agents. The driver, identified as 26-year-old Jose Martinez-Cisneros from Hollister, Calif., was subsequently arrested and booked into the Wheeler County Jail. Martinez-Cisneros faces charges of felony possession of a controlled substance.
Authorities indicated that the seized drugs were reportedly en route from Phoenix, Ariz., to Riley, N.C.
